When you’re just starting, it’s very, very tough to promote your blog and receive traffic. This can lead bloggers to stop blogging because they think they’ll never get out of the dark.
Traffic doesn’t grow on trees, and it may take some time before you see any kind of result. It’s obvious that you need to promote your site in order to get any traffic, but how can you promote your site and get traffic when you’re just starting from scratch?

1) Using forums.

This one never fails. You can bring quite a good amount of traffic to your blog if you post regularly on forums. Build up your profile and participate on forum’s discussions. Post and share content you find useful, and give your point of view. This will help you to get yourself a place on the respected group members. And if you’ve reputation, your blog (or anything you do) will have the same reputation.
Use forum signatures. I recommend putting some suspense on it. Using signatures like “Click if you want to know what’s this all about” or including inverse psychology, something like “Don’t click here!” will increase the click rate.
Don’t spam, and use forums within your niche. If you have a make money online topic, don’t go posting on photography forums, as you won’t get any results. (Ways to find forums on your niche)

2) Blog Directories.

Blog directories can help you receive traffic. The good thing is that you’ll get targeted visitors, as when you submit your blog, you submit it to a specific category, allowing members to search blog and sorting them by topics.
While they give you traffic, they’ll also help you to increase your PageRank, because they’ll link directly to your blog.
Apart from that, it will help Google to index and find you faster. The Google spider will crawl all over the net and having directories linking to our blog will show our dear spider the way to our blog.

3) Using social networks.

If you don’t have a clue about the social network’s power, you’re probably living under a rock. Social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter etc, are used by millions of people worldwide, so have an enormous potential waiting to be used.
Use it as a way to bring traffic to your site, either advertising on them or building your own profile, and redirecting links to your blog. Remember that as long as you don’t spam, everything is allowed.
Social networks can be used to promote your site for free among your friends. It’s one of the best spread-the-world tools.

4) Using ping services.

Ping services will automatically notify that your blog has been updated. Use it only when you’ve added a new post, otherwise it will just be useless to use a ping service.
Most ping services will give you the possibility to ping and notify that your blog has been updated to search engines, blog directories, sites such as Technorati, etc. As a result, you’ll get traffic.
There are tons of ways to promote your site when you’re just starting. These one are free. Being original and constructive will help you too.

I’m sorry, but you won’t get the 100$. It was just to show you how important titles are.
So important, that some of you haven’t even read the first paragraph shown on the home page, but just click on to get the hundred as soon as possible.
As you see, titles are everything. I’ll probably get more clicks on this post than any other.
Titles should be used to bring attention to a certain article or just to highlight it and make it different from the others.

There are a couple of tips you can use to make good titles, and bring quickly the reader’s attention.

Be usefull.

Using some words like “Free gift” or “Click here to…” will surely make readers to check what the gift is; they’ll click to see what the deal is. Posting lists is usually very helpful, something as

Put some mystery

Put on visitors the feeling that they need to click on the post to check what happened. Something like” I can’t believe this video….” Or “That was funny!” will get readers want to see what was funny or what happened on that video. The more “mystery-effect”, the better.

Use keywords.

With keywords here I mean words that bring reader’s attention. You can use, as an example:
“WOW!” or “That’s insane!!” “Don’t click here”
This will immediately bring other’s attention. This will also use to let you know your readers that you found something amazing, something they must check. And they’ll check.

Don’t be afraid of using caps.

People will tend to bring more attention to something that’s written on caps. What do you see first?

Use it as a way to make a difference between some parts of your blog. To bring attention to a particular post or even ad.

Be direct.

Titles like ” Click here.” “You must/should click here”, will make readers click on the link. Simple, but it’s the way we work. A simple title, two or three words, with a bit of authority will create a “I-must-click-on-that-link” effect.

Try to play with human behavior and take advantage from it. Always remember that humans are extremely curious, and will always want to know what happen to something.

On the other hand, you’ll for sure learn A LOT. Blogging is a work that never ends; you always have something new to learn about.

Way to do it wrong: Posting nonsense on forums. Not only you’ll get banned, but you’ll also get both yourself and your site a bad reputation.

Use your email wisely:

Email is known, among other factors, because you can make money online using email marketing, but you can also use it in order to promote your site. Put your site as a signature, so every single mail you send will have the urn of your site written on it. Who knows? You may find a loyal reader that way.

Comment on other big blogs:

This one’s similar to the first one. Found a blog which topic is similar to yours and comment. If done well this can give you the so wanted targeted traffic.

Way to do it wrong: Posting nonsense / posting fast so your comment appears the first one. This is a very stupid thing to do, as your comment probably won’t show up (considered as spam) and you’ll lose reputation, so if you need the help of the blog owner, she / he probably won’t help you on the future.

That’s right. Most of the traffic comes from search engine, so be sure you submit to search engines. The more, the better. This one sounds obvious, but you may have forgotten about it.

Quality content :

This one is obvious. Bad content will never give readers what they want, so they’ll never come back again. Be useful and original.
