You might be wondering: how come that some bloggers are able to make six figures annually, making a living from blogging –especially when you have a blog too and see how hard it is- what they do different.
The answer is actually pretty simple: Social Media Power.
Today I won’t write about how to get social power –mainly because it doesn’t require any special skills nor hide any secrets- but about how to increase social media traffic.
Sites like Stumbleupon, Digg, Reddit… are incredibly powerful –yeah, what a secret! – so it’s a must that you, as a blogger, try to take the maximum profit from these sites, and that’s something that you can’t always achieve.
We’re obviously talking about traffic.
How much would you pay for a link to one of your posts on a famous blog’s front page? A lot, isn’t it?
Well, you can get a link to one of your posts on a social media site’s front page for free! You can easily imagine the enormous positive impact you would get. So,
How to increase social media traffic?
There isn’t really any magic formula – and if it were, it wouldn’t be so funny- but you can get used to some techniques that will increase your social media traffic. Which points am I talking about?
1) Titles: We start from the point that to get your posts on a social media site like Stumbleupon, Digg etc, you need to submit your site, then having other users to vote for your history –or having users that directly submit your article- .
Knowing how it works, in order to have your post voted, the first thing you need to do is to get users to read your history.
Ok, this is obvious, but it’s not an easy task. The best way to get this done is by writing some damn good titles that caught reader’s attention.
If you don’t know how to start, you can check this post about how to catch reader’s attention.
Some quick tips:
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Go straight to the point
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Keep it simple
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Be mysterious
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Ask your readers to read it
2) Sites like Stumbleupon allow users to subscribe to other user’s profiles.
It’s extremely interesting as you can invite your friends and family to subscribe so they could easily vote / stumble/ Digg your histories and get even more exposure.
The number of visits I’ve gotten on Stumbleupon has proportionally increased along with my subscriber’s number.
As you see, it’s an important factor.
3) Authority matters: Yes. When you’re an authority, even if you post a crappy post, it doesn’t matter: It will get exposure and generate tons of traffic. More than a high quality post from a newbie blogger. It’s the way it works.
Some may say that if you’re an authority within your niche you won’t even care about social media traffic, as you get word of mouth, which is even better.
Well, this is true, but only partially.
I’m not talking about being an authority that’s on the top 5 on a best bloggers list. You can be an authority on a particular forum, as an example, and have anything you write stumbled/dugg/twitted…
Obviously, the bigger the community you’re an authority on is, the higher the amount of traffic received.
But remember: you can be an authority anywhere.
4) Some bloggers waste a huge amount of traffic just because they don’t want/like/are afraid of/ submitting their own histories.
There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s not morally wrong. You submit your history so that it reaches a vaster audience.
So, submit your own articles. As long as they’re useful, they’ll be accepted.
And last but not least, this is just like a making money journey: the more sources you try, the more traffic you’ll get.
Don’t limit yourself to Stumbleupon and Digg. Use every source you can. You’ll increase your traffic thanks to every little visitor you can get using those sites.
I hope you can increase your social media traffic as it feels pretty good.
How about you?
