Sometimes you may want to publish password protected posts.
It may sound weird to some of you, but still you can take advantage from this WordPress feature.
I wrote a post some time ago about how to increase your subscribers number, and one of the ways were to make password protected posts.
What is a password protected post?
It’s a feature that allows you to show only a part of a particular post, or only it’s title, requiring a password set by the author to be completely shown.
When should you use it?
You can’t abuse from this feature nor to do it each time you publish a new post. A few tips about when and how to use it:
1) Reputation: Do it when you have a reputation or when you’re a known and respectable on your field, otherwise nobody will care if you fully show your posts or not.
2) Popular posts: You don’t need to set a password when releasing the post. You can publish a great post, wait for it to get popularity, and setting the password later on. You must do it on the right moment though, as the key here is to generate tons of backlinks to it (due to its great content) and then protect it. SEO here will be VERY helpful.
3) Exclusivity: Posting information that only you have is the best excuse to password protect a post. Interviewing success bloggers on your niche is the best source of exclusivity.
4) Killing articles: Killing articles are articles containing TONS of great and helpful content, that takes care of every detail possible on the post topic. A guaranteed of a password protection success.
5) Reviews: When having reputation, you can make posts reviewing a particular product requiring a password to be fully displayed. Reviews are great because you can do the password protection trick to get RSS subscribers on one hand, and leaving a link to get sales if the product reviewed is something related to your niche or can be useful to other bloggers. Apart from that, you won’t find more exclusivity than within your own thoughts.
How to make password protected post?
Pretty simple. Just when going to publish a new post edit the options on the right (the publish options) edit to chose the visibility and select the passwword protected option. Then, simply use the password.

As you read on the post mentioned above, you know that this is mostly made to increase subscriptions, as the password would be sent via email, that leads to an increase on your email list, and that means email marketing, the most powerful tool to make money blogging.
The best service do this task is Aweber, as autoresponders will be crucial.
Think before making a password protected post.
