Damn I LOVE spam!

No, don’t worry I’m not becoming crazy, I just reached another goal!

My blog is growing, it has just surpassed the first 1,000 spam comments. Let me explain you why I’m so happy.

Of course spam is a major headache, as you need to keep your blog spam free, but it’s also a great sign, because spam level is a great way to measure your blog’s popularity and to keep track of your progress. akismet Damn I LOVE spam!

It’s just as negative comments. The more negative – aggressive – offensive comments you get, the better you’ll be doing. Some guys just can’t stand with other’s success.

Anyway, talking about spam, here goes two quick tips to avoid spam:

How to avoid spam

1)      Using Akismet plugin: “Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not.”

I’d add to check for the comments taken as Spam by this plugins, as I’ve seen some legitimate plugins on it, but it works great.

2)      Setting a filter: If you want even more spam protection, you just need to set up a filter and add the words you want.

To do it you just need to go to Settings -> Discussions -> Comments Blacklist and start adding the typical spam words.no spam Damn I LOVE spam!

Be careful, as words matches. As an example, writing press will match with WordPress.

So, if you have a decent spam comment’s amount, tell the world about it, it’s another way to get popularity!

Waiting now to reach 2,000 comments.

Thank you all spammers for giving me another reason to keep blogging.

Thanks for reading.

PS. Should I post how to get spam comments?

Great news.

I also get a lot of spam, actually I always get mroe spam then real comments, but if you have akismet, then there’s nothing to worry about.

Well, I’d say that every blogger gets more spam comments than real ones so no problem :)

Good Morning (it is where I am ) … and thank you for the laugh! I never thought of “spam” in quite those terms, goes to show there is always another perspective on all things. I love that you bring non-mainstream thoughts – its good for the brain!

I only use askismet to fight spam, and it is working fine until now.

Yes. Anyway I always check each comment because sometimes a legit comment can be flagged as spam.

Yeah, I get the spam comments too. But I wonder how much of it is from spam-bots. When I get a bunch of jibberish that makes no sense at all except for the “viagra” part. I don’t believe that all of that is coming from humans who happen to come across my sight and leave comments about drugs for the sexually impotent.

On the other hand if I had a blog about hot chicks or something…

Yeah, that’s why I’ve thought about inserting a captcha plugin but I don’t want to bother my readers just because of those spam bots.

Still have time to moderate all my comments :)

Thanks for the comment.
