This is the third post of the make money blogging post series. (Make money blogging – part 1 ; Make money blogging – part 2)
Today I want to talk about the Google custom search engines service.
Let me first start with a blogging tip. You MUST have a search engine on your blog. Why? Because humans are lazy, and unless they directly came from a search engine and landed on a landing page or a particular page on your blog, they [probably] won’t browse your entire site looking for an answer for his/her query’s.
That said, you would be wondering: “Hey Sam, can’t we make a profit out of our search engines?” Of course you can, my dear readers.
On the first part of the make money blogging post series, I talked about affiliate marketing, on the second one I talked about how to monetize the RSS feed, and today monetizing a search engine. I didn’t choose that order just for the sake of it. I decided that order because I like to talk about on page monetization and off page monetization.
On page monetization is all about monetization on your own blog, off page monetization is all about monetizing using sources from outside your blog (such as RSS, Aff marketing when advertising outside your blog, search engines…). I prefer off page monetization when it comes to make money blogging. Why? Because the less you bother your readers with ads, the better for them; hence, the better for yourself. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t put ads on your blog, we’ll talk about it later, but let’s focus on today’s topic.
- How to make money blogging using Google custom search engines.
Ok folks, as always you’ll want to get tons of traffic using this system, as you’ll put Adsense ads on your search engine.
All you’ll need to do to create your search engine and inserting the ads is to login on to your Adsense account and select the custom search engine options and follow the instructions. But that’s not all you’ll need to do to optimize this way of monetization.
There’s four factors you must control in order to maximize your Adsense earnings.
1) Traffic : Whether your subject is make money blogging or just a personal blog you need traffic.
2) Size and Colors : Knowing how to tweak your Adsense ads is crucial to generate clicks. As I always say, make ads don’t look like ads.
3) Relevant: When blogging about making money online or SEO, it’s useless if your ads show how to have a cute garden.
4) Placement: Probably the most important issue to take into account. If you’ve tweaked your ads well, then placing them as natural sentences on your posts or footer will boost your clicks, therefore, increase your earnings.
So, example of how I’m doing it :

As you see, when searching you first see the Google ads, and they look like search results, mazimizing the chances of getting clicks.
There are tons of ways to monetize your site. Think, test and hit!
