There are a lot of misunderstood these days about SEO. There are even myths about the SEO and the importance of certain factors about positioning first on search engines.
I’ve picked some of them and analyzed them, in order to check whether they are true or not. Let’s start.
My Google Toolbar says I’ve got a 5 PR!
Really? Well, you’re wrong. The PR shown on the Google Toolbar is just a bit useless, from the SEO point of view. For sure it will help you getting advertisers, for selling links. For monetizing options, but not from the SEO viewpoint. It can be outdated etc. We can say it’s not 100% accurate and precise, but it’s used by advertisers.
I can easily have a PR2 and appear above a PR4 on the Google list. Anyway, having a high PR is cool, so don’t forget about it.
PR is useless.
Why? If you want to monetize, then PR is a factor to take care about. Just as the Alexa rank. There are factors that can be used to bring advertisers and “link deals”.
I’m focusing on Meta keywords!
Then you’re mostly losing your time. Meta tags are useless from the SERP viewpoint, so better start working about ingoing & outgoing links and make a friendly site for search engines.
SERP is the most important thing of SEO. It’s the objective. Reach the top of search engines and get targeted traffic.
Some ingoing links + friendly site = lot of traffic.
Google robots can read everything!
Wrong again my friend. In fact, having a friendly site means, among other factors, minimize the use of Flash, JavaScript etc. Robots can’t just read it. And if the robot can’t read it, it isn’t optimized. Simple = Better, use as much HTML as you can.
Some tips to finish. If you’re just starting, focus yourself on “low keywords”. Let me explain it. If you just start and use, let’s say, Google as keyword, you’ll probably never see your page on top of search engines.
Start from scratch, focus on SERP, get the traffic first, get loyal readers, and then go for the big fish.
If you’ve a website, make yourself a blog. www.domainname.com/blog. Why? Because Search Engines love free content. It’s easier to update your site using a blog than adding pages each day.
And last but not least, DON’T FORGET ABOUT CONTENT! Getting traffic is just the beginning; you must make your readers to come back to your site. Focus on your content. Make it original. This way you’ll get a bunch of loyal readers, ready to bookmark your site.
