When talking about blogging, even more when talking about blogging for money, your number one rule should be increasing popularity.
You will increase your popularity when you start marketing yourself. Carl Ocab said it, marketing is king and not content.
When starting, it’s pretty hard to set up a profile and market it, so here I come with a few tips.

Maybe when reading this you would be claiming that why the hell would you need to market yourself, that the only thing you want is traffic.
While this is true because traffic feed your blog every day, market yourself is part of the plan. In fact, is THE plan, as it will get you tons of benefits, such as traffic, special traffic. Why? Because the kind of traffic you will get when you market youself is coming from the mouth – to – mouth way, so, if you fall from SERPs, you’ll still be getting it.
Apart from that, anything you sell / recommend will become gold, boosting your income.
In other words, you’ll be popular.
So, I’ve came with a few tips so you can start increasing your popularity:

1) Market yourself: It’s the most effective way to make money blogging / online and get traffic. You can market yourself by setting a profile. As an example how an spanish blogger makes money by blogging in English. Or like Carl Ocab, who’s known as the KidBlogger.

2) Using social media: One of the main reasons why bloggers can’t hardly make a penny blogging is because they don’t use social media wisely. These days there are tons of social media tools that connect you with people from all over the world with a single click. Use it wisely and take advantage from it.

3) Using forums: Apart from sending you traffic using signatures, forums are one of the easiest ways to build a profile and market it. Find forums related to your niche and start posting and helping. As the time goes on, you’ll be known automatically among the community.

4) Participating: On the big blog’s contests. With participating I mean helping to grow the price list. Contact the blogger who’s making the contest and offer him/her your cooperation. Remember to give away good prices, that can be send easily.

5) Guests Posts: On big blogs will give you a market value depending on the post you send. If you send a topic talking about ways to make money blogging you’ll be remembered as a blogger which share income sources, if you send a post about photography, you’ll be remembered as a photography blogger.

6) Blog commenting: While you comment on big blogs and doing it frequently, you’ll be able to build a profile too, as happens with forums.
